03 May Puerto Sherry boosts Pilar Lamadrid’s career towards the Olympics
The Andalusian windsurfer values the support and confidence of the marina management “from the beginning, when there were still no results“.
El Puerto de Santa María, 2nd May 2024 – The Andalusian windsurfer Pilar Lamadrid, who will be Spain’s representative at the Paris Olympic Games in the iQFOil class, has recently shared an interview in which she highlights the importance of Puerto Sherry’s support in her path to the top of the sport. Lamadrid has had the unconditional support of Puerto Sherry in recent years, a collaboration that has been fundamental in her development as an elite athlete. In his own words, he says: “I have been lucky enough to have the confidence of Puerto Sherry since 2018, when I finished my Physiotherapy degree and decided to dedicate myself 100% to my sporting career“.
This support has allowed Lamadrid to compete at the highest level, even in her early years when she had not yet achieved significant results. Thanks to the sponsorship of Puerto Sherry, she was able to access a full team and compete in the RS:X class (former Olympic class), which eventually led to her being part of the Olympic team as sparring partner for Blanca Manchón, “I went on to achieve my best results. Then with iQFOil and thanks to the results of the first year, the financial support helped me to buy my first team in 2020 and compete in the first international regatta, where I was among the top ten, and from there I was able to be part of the pre-Olympic team until today,” says the Andalusian.
The Sevillian deeply values the support received, both financially and personally, “At the beginning of everything, it meant that although there were still no results, there was confidence in me, and I think that’s the hardest thing, that they believe in you when there are no results, so I value and appreciate the help of Puerto Sherry,” says Lamadrid.
In addition to her sporting success, Lamadrid is proud to represent Puerto Sherry in the world of Sailing and Windsurfing, “I love being the flag bearer of Puerto Sherry around the world, whenever I go to regattas or when I am asked in interviews I am proud to call it my home“.
In return for the support received, Pilar Lamadrid is committed to promoting the values of hard work, perseverance and passion for the sea that characterise Puerto Sherry. She concludes: “My main contribution is my personal connection with Puerto Sherry, the image I try to spread of hard work, perseverance, respect and passion for the sea“.
Nicolás Figueras, CEO of Puerto Sherry, highlights the pride they feel in being part of Pilar Lamadrid’s journey to the Olympic Games since their partnership began in 2018. He highlights the firm belief in Pilar’s potential and their commitment to supporting her sporting career. Figueras emphasises that constant support and trust are key to boosting emerging talent, citing Pilar’s case as an inspiring example of this.
The Puerto Sherry CEO expressed his satisfaction at how this support has been fundamental to Pilar’s success in windsurfing, from her first steps in the RS:X class to her upcoming participation in the Olympic team in the iQFOil class. He highlighted the remarkable progress Pilar has made thanks to her dedication and considered her an exemplary ambassador for Puerto Sherry, just like Blanca Manchón, “both for her sporting excellence and for her passion for the sea and their shared values“.
Finally, Figueras reaffirmed Puerto Sherry’s commitment to continue supporting Pilar in every step of her career, expressing his enthusiasm to see her represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Paris. He concluded by expressing his confidence that Pilar’s determination and talent will take her to new heights in her sporting career, and reiterated Puerto Sherry’s commitment to stand by her side in every fair wind and challenge she faces.
