3 February 2025 – Puerto Sherry has taken a decisive step towards leadership in responsible tourism by achieving an outstanding quadruple certification in sustainability, awarded by Your Sustainable Destination. This historic achievement reinforces its position as a benchmark in conscious tourism, underlining its commitment to caring for the natural environment, efficient resource management and sustainable development.

The recognition has led the mayor of El Puerto de Santa María, Germán Beardo, to visit the complex’s facilities on Monday. During his visit, Beardo congratulated the Puerto Sherry team for their efforts and commitment, highlighting the positive impact that this type of achievement has on the municipality. ‘This recognition reinforces the town’s commitment to a tourism model that respects the environment, contributing to its development by generating employment, attracting visitors and promoting good practices that have an impact on the whole community.’

“This recognition is a source of pride for El Puerto de Santa María, which also returns from Fitur with the Q for Tourism Quality for its coastline. It is a clear example of how tourism and sustainability can go hand in hand, consolidating our city as a benchmark in the field of sustainable tourism at an international level”. Beardo underlined the importance of this milestone for the projection of the city, stating that ‘Puerto Sherry is one of the best marinas in southern Europe, and this step brings us even closer to consolidating El Puerto de Santa María as a leading destination of excellence.’

Puerto Sherry presented the Puerto Sherry Sustainable Destination brand a week ago at the International Tourism Fair FITUR, in an event attended by the president of Marinas Puerto de Santa María, Valle de la Riva, the general manager of Puerto Sherry, Nicolás Figueras and the councillor for Tourism and Promotion of El Puerto de Santa María, Olga Navas, who presented the certifications obtained by the marina.

Puerto Sherry has been recognised for its commitment in different areas, The Puerto Sherry Hotel has been recognised for its focus on energy efficiency and reduction of environmental impact; La Terraza restaurant stands out for its commitment to local products and sustainable practices; while the Puerto Sherry Marina has implemented innovative measures to promote the responsible use of the maritime environment. In addition, las Suites have been certified for their integration of sustainable solutions that enhance the traveller’s experience while minimising environmental impact.

Puerto Sherry also celebrates being included in the list of certifications recognised by the Travalyst Association, one of the most influential international initiatives in sustainable tourism, which recognises as the only company in Spain the entity Tu Destino Sostenible. This recognition underlines the resort’s alignment with the highest global standards and positions it as a role model in the industry. The specific certification for sustainable accommodation also highlights measures such as responsible water management, waste recycling and the use of environmentally friendly resources.

The consolidation of Puerto Sherry as a tourist destination of excellence is evidenced by the comparative data between 2023 and 2024, which show sustained growth in several key indicators. In terms of occupancy, the resort has recorded a notable increase in both moorings and the average stay of guests at the hotel.

In terms of figures, the Puerto Sherry Hotel has recorded an 18.5% increase in turnover compared to 2023, in addition to an 11 percentage point increase in its occupancy rate, reaching close to 70% throughout the year and peaking at 90% in the summer period. For its part, the Marina achieved a total occupancy rate of 91.19% between base and transit, representing an increase of 5% over the previous year, driven mainly by a 12 percentage point rise in base occupancy.

In the gastronomic field, the restaurant La Terraza has experienced a significant growth in the number of reservations and a greater influx of international visitors, attracted by an offer that combines local products with responsible practices.

Likewise, Puerto Sherry has doubled the number of sporting, cultural and leisure activities organised in 2024 compared to the previous year, diversifying its offer and consolidating itself as a key economic driver for the region.

These certifications and results highlight Puerto Sherry’s efforts to lead a tourism model that combines sustainability, excellence and diversity. By consolidating its position as a national and international benchmark, the resort reaffirms its commitment to the environment, community development and the satisfaction of an increasingly demanding and aware traveller profile.
