29 Sep Puerto Sherry Strengthens Its International Presence Following the Southampton Boat Show
The marina in El Puerto de Santa María moves forward with the renewal of its 5 Gold Anchors accreditation, explores new opportunities linked to the Clipper Race and strengthens relationships with international marinas and companies across the nautical industry.
Puerto Sherry continues to strengthen its position within the international nautical sector. Its participation in the Southampton International Boat Show provided the Cádiz-based marina with an opportunity to establish new professional contacts and explore different avenues for collaboration in the coming years.
Attending one of Europe’s leading marine industry events enabled Puerto Sherry to meet with associations, marinas, companies, sponsors and representatives of international sailing competitions. These initiatives contribute to further positioning El Puerto de Santa María and the Bay of Cádiz as destinations closely connected to sailing and nautical tourism.
Puerto Sherry Promotes Andalusia’s Nautical Offering in Southampton
Puerto Sherry’s General Manager, Nicolás Figueras, and Commercial Director, Mariluz Rivero, attended the Southampton International Boat Show as part of the Marinas de Andalucía delegation, alongside the Andalusian Public Ports Agency (APPA).
The delegation aimed to showcase the network of Andalusian marinas to the British market while promoting the region’s extensive nautical and tourism offering.
Participation in the show also provided an opportunity to establish relationships with a variety of international industry representatives and gain first-hand insight into some of the trends currently shaping the future of the nautical sector.
Progress Towards Renewing the 5 Gold Anchors Accreditation
One of the highlights of Puerto Sherry’s agenda in Southampton was a meeting with The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA).
The marina is currently working towards renewing its prestigious 5 Gold Anchors accreditation, an international distinction that assesses aspects such as the quality of marina facilities, the services provided and the overall experience offered to sailors and visitors.
As part of the renewal process, representatives from the association are expected to visit Puerto Sherry in the near future to carry out the corresponding assessment of its facilities and services.
Puerto Sherry Explores Future Opportunities with the Clipper Race
The Southampton visit also provided an opportunity to continue discussions regarding the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, an international sailing competition with which Puerto Sherry has already developed a strong relationship through its previous experience as a host port.
During the show, meetings were held with representatives of the Clipper Race organisation as well as professionals involved in the event’s sponsorship.
Following its previous experience hosting the competition, Puerto Sherry is now considering different possibilities for maintaining and developing its relationship with the international race.
Discussions remain ongoing, with particular attention being given to the 2027 and 2029 editions, although the exact form of any future collaboration has yet to be determined.
International Recognition at the TYHA Marina Awards
Puerto Sherry was once again represented among the international candidates at the TYHA Marina Awards, which recognise the achievements of marinas and professionals working across the nautical industry.
For Puerto Sherry, being represented once again at these international awards highlights the day-to-day work carried out by the professionals who make up the marina’s team.
Among them is Lucas Alcón, Technical Director of Club Náutico Puerto Sherry, who has previously received recognition at these awards.
New Opportunities for Puerto Sherry and the Bay of Cádiz
Beyond the institutional meetings, the Southampton International Boat Show provided Puerto Sherry with an opportunity to exchange experiences with other marinas and specialist companies from across the industry.
These meetings offered valuable insight into new developments and solutions in areas including safety, technology, marina infrastructure and services for sailors and vessels.
Following its participation in Southampton, Puerto Sherry will continue developing the relationships established during the show, with the aim of turning these contacts into future partnerships and new projects.
This international strategy seeks to further promote nautical activity in El Puerto de Santa María, strengthen Puerto Sherry’s international profile and contribute to positioning the Bay of Cádiz as a leading destination for sailing and nautical tourism.
