El Puerto de Santa María once again became the setting for an inspiring initiative combining sailing, solidarity and unforgettable family experiences. On 24 October 2026, Puerto Sherry and Discakids hosted the third edition of “A Day to Unwind at Sea”, giving more than 50 families with children with disabilities and various medical conditions the opportunity to enjoy a memorable day on the water.

Favourable weather conditions contributed to the success of the event, allowing children and their families to spend time together, enjoy the sea and take a welcome break from their everyday routines.

Around 275 Participants and 54 Boats Join the Charity Sailing Event

This year’s gathering brought together approximately 275 people and 54 boats, highlighting the generosity and commitment of the local sailing community.

A key element of the initiative was the support of boat owners, who voluntarily made their vessels available to participating families at no cost.

Puerto Sherry Promotes Inclusive and Accessible Sailing

Through this initiative, Puerto Sherry continues to demonstrate its commitment to social inclusion and making the sea accessible to everyone.

Working alongside Discakids, the marina aims to create opportunities for families who may otherwise face barriers to participating in recreational sailing activities.

Beyond the sailing experience itself, “A Day to Unwind at Sea” offered families the chance to relax, connect with others and create lasting memories in a welcoming environment.

A Special Musical Performance by Mía Crespo

One of the most memorable moments of the event came at the end of the day, when Mía Crespo, a seven-year-old girl with a visual impairment, delivered a musical performance.

Her appearance provided a touching conclusion to a celebration filled with happiness, shared experiences and community spirit.

Local Organisations and Businesses Support the Initiative

The third edition of this charity sailing event was made possible through the involvement of several organisations and businesses committed to supporting the project.

The event received the collaboration of the Fundación Vela Clásica de España and Club Náutico Puerto Sherry.

Sailing, Inclusion and Solidarity Come Together in the Bay of Cádiz

The third edition of “A Day to Unwind at Sea” represents much more than a recreational sailing trip.

The collaboration between Puerto Sherry, Discakids, boat owners and supporting organisations demonstrates how the nautical community can work together to create meaningful and inclusive experiences.

Through initiatives like this, Puerto Sherry continues to strengthen its connection with the local community while promoting sailing as an activity that can be enjoyed and shared by everyone.
