Last August 17 the qualifying trials began in the Swiss town of Silvaplana for the world championship of the new Olympic discipline of Windsurfing, the iQFoil class.
Pilar tells us that she has had a very intense week, as it was the first regatta of the season after 9 months of training at home and also had to adapt to many situations that occurred in the Swiss lake, but her feelings during the week were improving.
Our windsurfer managed to get the “medal race” on Sunday where the top twelve athletes participated and being the only national sportswoman classified in the Top10. It is worth mentioning that she was very close to the Top3 but she fell in the first section of the final race; however, she went on giving it all until the last second without giving up, obtaining a well-deserved fourth place.
She told us her feelings: “Winning the semi-final was a real rush! Not only for the fact of going through to the final with the 3 best in the world, but also for the support of the people in the stands at the finish line and the satisfaction of having given everything. The fall in the last heat when I could have been in the lead does not mean anything to me, I went to the final more than satisfied and with the goal of giving everything and enjoying if a medal could be achieved. It could not be, but I leave this last task for the next world championship.”
From Puerto Sherry we want to congratulate Pilar Lamadrid not only for her fourth place in this world championship, as we know she is a great athlete, but also for that constant and fighting attitude. Congratulations Pilar! Go for it!
