02 Sep The Galeón Andalucía visits Puerto Sherry
The Galleon, which is a replica of the ship used by the Spanish during the 16th to 18th centuries in the maritime expeditions of discovery and inter-oceanic trade between Spain, America and the Philippines, will be in our port on the 3rd and 4th of September and its interior can be visited by adults and children from 10:00h to 20:30h.
The replica of this galleon is a ship of 500 tons, 49 metres long and 10 metres wide, with 4 masts and almost a thousand square metres of sail area with its 6 sails. It took three years of research into the shapes, details and measurements of these galleons of the Indies to build her, gathering the necessary information from the main historical and naval archives in Spain.
Since its launching in 2010, this galleon, with a crew of between 15 and 35 people, has already sailed the great oceans and seas of the world. It has sailed the Pacific and Indian Oceans, crossed the Atlantic and sailed the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the China Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Bosphorus and the Caribbean Sea, sailing tens of thousands of nautical miles, evoking its ancestors.
Don’t miss the opportunity to travel back in time to the 17th century by visiting this marvel of naval engineering.
