Success of the charity event ‘A Day to Disconnect at Sea’, organised by Puerto Sherry and Discakids.

The best part? The happiness reflected in the faces of the children on board the boats.

El Puerto de Santa María, 11 October 2024 – The ‘A Day to Disconnect at Sea’ event, organised by Puerto Sherry and Discakids, proved to be a deeply meaningful experience for the participating families and a resounding success for its organisers. The initiative, designed to offer a day of enjoyment to families with children with physical disabilities, was held in the unbeatable setting of the waters of the Bay of Cadiz, and the greatest reward was seeing the smiles and happiness on the faces of the children and their families.

Thanks to the collaboration of the users of Puerto Sherry and other nearby ports, who gave their boats selflessly, families, and especially children with reduced mobility, were able to enjoy an unforgettable boat trip around the bay.

Manuel Corchado, representative of Discakids, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to creating unique experiences for children with disabilities. He highlighted that the day at sea, organised together with Puerto Sherry, ‘has exceeded all expectations, providing not only a day of disconnection, but also a day of inclusion’. He also thanked the skippers and ship owners for their generosity in lending their boats, underlining the importance of solidarity and the need to continue with initiatives like this.

‘From the Spanish Classical Sailing Foundation, it was an absolute pleasure to be able to give a ride to one of the families aboard our boat ‘Gipsy’. Classic sailing is not only a passion, but also a way of sharing our history and our traditions, and there is no better way to do this than by offering moments of happiness to those who need it most,’ said Javier Gorbeña, vice-president of the Foundation.

After the experience at sea, all participants enjoyed a convivial lunch, where families were also able to learn about new proposals and essential resources to improve the well-being of their children. The day not only served to disconnect and enjoy, but also to strengthen the bond between families and organisers.

Valle de la Riva, president of Puerto Sherry, expressed her excitement at the success of the event, highlighting the joy of the children sailing, ‘At Puerto Sherry, we have always believed in the power of the sea to connect and offer unforgettable moments, and this day has proved it once again’. She thanked the owners, skippers and sponsors for their support and stressed that she was ‘convinced that this is just the beginning of many more days like this in Puerto Sherry’.

The firms Permobil, Ortopedia San Dionisio, Ortopedia Gerardo León Gelci, Smink, Karma Mobility, S.L., Goframa Home, S.L., Rehagirona and Establecimientos Ortopédicos Prim, S.A. contributed to the success of the event.
