08 May Puerto Sherry renews the Blue Flag for the second year running
The international recognition reaffirms the marina’s sustainability performance.
El Puerto de Santa María, 8 May 2024 – Puerto Sherry has been awarded the Blue Flag distinction for the second consecutive year by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), through ADEAC (Association for Environmental and Consumer Education), for its commitment in terms of environmental management, quality services and safety. The Blue Flag is an international recognition that demonstrates the port’s commitment to sustainability and respect for the marine environment.
With the renewal of this distinctive seal of quality worldwide, Puerto Sherry fulfils one of its major objectives since it decided to set new directions, to return to being the competitive and first class marina it was destined to be, understanding that sustainability, concern for the environment and quality of service, are the pillars that must sustain its existence.
Water quality, safety, waste management, environmental education and accessibility for people with disabilities, among others, are some of the requirements that make Puerto Sherry worthy of this distinction.
Since obtaining the first Blue Flag last year, Puerto Sherry has redoubled its efforts to maintain and improve its environmental standards. Through the implementation of innovative and sustainable measures, such as the reduction of its environmental footprint and the active collaboration with local and environmental organisations, the port has demonstrated a tangible commitment to the preservation of the marine environment.
Nicolas Figueras, CEO of Puerto Sherry, commented, “This second Blue Flag is a reflection of our long-term commitment to the preservation of the marine environment and excellence in port management. We are proud to be recognised as a port that not only offers an exceptional nautical experience, but also leads the way towards a more sustainable future for our entire maritime community.
We thank the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and ADEAC for this honour, and reaffirm our commitment to continue working towards sustainable development in harmony with the sea“.
Spain is the third country in number of Blue Flags for marinas (102), behind the Netherlands and France.
