The first European Optimist Championship held in Andalusia

During the week of June 20th to 27th, the Optimist Class European Championship took place in the waters of the Bay of Cadiz, organized by the Royal Nautical Club of El Puerto de Santa María and the International Optimist Class Association -IODA- in the facilities of Puerto Sherry, with the collaboration of the Andalusian Sailing Federation, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Puerto Sherry, the Higher Council of Sports, the Government of Andalusia, the Council of Cádiz, the City Hall of El Puerto de Santa María, Puerto Bahia de Cádiz, Tactic Audiovisual, the Barcelona Boat Show and the firms Winner, Frusur, Bernardino Abad, Coanda and Kyocera.

It was a championship where a total of 38 countries were represented, which meant the arrival of more than 300 boats to our city, without counting the families, nor the coaches of the teams. The participants were from the infantile and juvenile categories, up to 16 years old.

After a great competition for the podium, the champions of the regatta were Xavier Garcia Olle of the Royal Nautical Club of Palma de Mallorca and the Greek Kleopatra Anastassiou. During the European Championship, we could appreciate a very competitive sailing team, the weather conditions, both wind and sea, did not make it easy for them. From Puerto Sherry, we congratulate all participants who fought to the maximum to meet the goal.
